This former sandstone quarry is one of the most picturesque and little-known landscapes of the Pityusic coast, located in the vicinity of Cala d’Hort, below the cliff that tops the des Savinar defence tower. Part of the Renaissance walls of Ibiza were built with blocks of stone cut from the quarries here and transported to the city by sea.
This work left cuts in the coastline which, in some areas, fill with water forming salt-water swimming pools. Given that they resemble the ruins of an ancient city, the hippies who set up home in a nearby cave renamed the place as “Atlantis” although its real name is Pedrera de Cala d’Hort. To get there by land you have to descend the cliff with sand dunes and so you need to be physically fit and in good shape to do so.
