Facing the imposing cliffs of es Amunts, with its landscapes devoid of any human presence, are ses Margalides, two small islands that are both remarkable and extraordinary. The larger of the island, na Foradada, is shaped like a horseshoe with a hollow in the centre, forming an arch through which small boats without a mast can pass through. The smaller island is no more than a steep peak and is known as es Picatxo.
The arch of na Foradada is 45 metres in height. There is a plant growing at the top (Euphorbia margalidiana), which is a type of spurge that is unique in the world as it only exists here and in s’illa Murada, near Sant Miquel Port, where it was transplanted to ensure its survival.
Both islands are one of the most popular underwater landscapes enjoyed by divers. Facing these islets, at the foot of the vertical cliff is the beach of ses Balandres which is reached from the flat area of Santa Agnès along a path that winds its way along the precipice and is only suitable for those in good physical shape and who are not afraid of heights or suffer from vertigo.
